So… WTF is this?

BracketLab: Where your cousin's 'gut feeling' meets actual data in a parking lot at 2am.

How to Science the Hell Out of March

1

Build Your Theory

Pick your rules, weaponize your biases, make it yours.

1 = whisper. 10 = scream. Each rule is a theory: jet lag matters, pants matter, everything matters if you believe hard enough.

67 rules. Infinite combinations. Your bracket, your choices.

Each rule is a hypothesis you're testing on the bracket. Travel fatigue? Real. Altitude advantage? Maybe. Mascot pants superiority? Surprisingly relevant. Drag the sliders: • 1 = "this might matter a little" • 10 = "THIS IS THE ONLY THING THAT MATTERS" Your model is the sum of your convictions. Choose wisely. Or don't.

2

Release the Chaos

Unleash your model on 68 teams. Watch what happens.

Choose Control Mode for cold logic, Probabilistic Mode to let chaos vote, or Historical Mode to see if your theory would've predicted last year's madness.

Run 1 bracket or 10,000. The model doesn't judge.

Three ways to run your bracket: • Control Mode — pure math. Highest score wins. No upsets, no chaos, no fun surprises. Just your model's stone-cold logic. • Probabilistic Mode — your weights become odds. A 60-40 edge means the favorite wins 60% of the time. Run it 100 times, get 100 different champions. This is where 12-seeds come alive. • Historical Mode — the time machine. Test your model on past tournaments to see if it would've predicted the real outcomes. Get a Historical Score showing how well your theory holds up against actual March chaos. Run one bracket. Run a thousand. See if your model crowns the same champ or gets humbled by a 15-seed with a hot hand and nothing to lose.

3

Autopsy Your Bracket

Every upset has a reason. Here's yours.

Open the “But Why” panel to see which rules fired, how loud they screamed, and why your 2-seed just lost to a team whose mascot wears a hat. In Historical Mode, check your Historical Score — did your model see it coming, or did March eat you alive?

If you can't explain why you picked a 13-seed, did you really pick them?

Learn more

Every pick has a paper trail. Click any matchup to open the "But Why" panel: • Which rules fired • How much each one mattered • Why your model chose Team A over Team B In Historical Mode, you'll also see your Historical Score — a report card comparing your model's bracket to what actually happened. Got a 75%? Your theory holds water. Got a 45%? Either March was extra chaotic that year, or your model needs work. Tweak the weights. Run it again. Save the one that makes you look smart.

Now go forth and bracket like you know what you're doing.
(You don't. None of us do. That's the point.)
